Thank you.

Yes I knew Emma Kezia married twice.

Firstly to Mr Couch with whom she had a daughter.  After he died she remarried to Thomas Lambert, a Law Clerk.   They later immigrated to Australia with Thomas's daughter but without her daughter, Emily.

Do you know if Thomas & Sarah Laister died before 1871?

I only know they don't appear in the 1881 census, so they both died between 1861 and 1881.

Thanks to your help, I've been able to locate a christening record for Thomas:

THOMAS LAISTER
     Male

Event(s):
   Birth:
   Christening:
02 MAR 1795      Althorpe, Lincoln, England
   Death:
   Burial:

Parents:
     Father:     WM LAISTER    Family
     Mother:     ELIZTH

There is a whole family there, which is great.

Is Althorpe near Bottesford?   I misplaced my road directory of England ages ago so I rely on internet maps, which is a little hit and miss.

Leonie,

I checked the 1861 census again for the birthplace ' Aby' and that seems to be what it says. There is an 'Aby with Greenfield' in Louth District  - so that's a possibility.

Here's a link to Lincolnshire Parishes which will give you an idea of the distance between Althorpe and Bottesford.

Leonie,

this might help to rule this Thomas & Emma Lambert out....

1871 Census -  very faint and difficult to read.

Southcoates Lincolnshire

21 Warwick street

Thomas Lambert, head, mar, 45, Pullyman?, Stocksley Yorks
Emma, wife, 43, Barton Lincs.
Thomas, son, 8, Scholar, Hull Yorks
William H, son, 6, Scholar, Hull Yorks
Mary Ann, dau, 2, Hull Yorks

RG10/4780

Leonie,
if you want any of the family on the later censuses just let me know.

I couldn't see Emma COUCH in 1851 Lincs, but there was a COUCH family in Claythorpe - head of household from Buckland, Devon  :o  They were also there in 1841.

Hi Geoff, :)

I noticed, on the 1861 census, that the name Couch was fairly common in Devon.

Quite a few entries for Emma Couch - but none born Lincolnshire. Looks as if some of the Devon folk moved to Lincolnshire at some stage.

Regards
