EDWARDS, David - born Inverkeilor 1888
« on: Sunday 14 July 19 07:49 BST (UK) »
Hi All.

I am looking to find any information on the fate of David Edwards who was born in Inverkeilor on 28 November 1888.

His parents were James Edward(s) and Elizabeth Quinn who married in St Vigeans in 1874.  James for many years was the blacksmith at Newbarns Smithy in Anniston.

David's older siblings were John (b 1875 St Vigeans - d 1943 Dundee), James (b 1877 St Vigeans d 1956 Arbroath), Jane Jessie (b 1882 St Vigeans - d 1950 Queensland, Australia), William (b 1884 Montrose - d 1932 Dundee) and Norman (b 1886 Montrose - d 1962, British Columbia, Canada) - related threads here:

John, James Jnr and William are blacksmiths like their father although William also later works as a railway porter. Norman is a Private with the Black Watch and then later in Canada becomes a miner.

David is with his parents on the census in 1891 and 1901 but he is not with them on the 1911 census.

There seems to be just the one David Edwards the right age in Angus in 1911 in St Mary but he is also there in 1901.  He seems likely to be the man killed in France in 1917 as well.

Ancestry hints suggest a David Edwards who dies in Hamiota, Manitoba, Canada but he appears to be born in February 1888 and he may be the David Edwards born in Kingoldrum.

The newspaper obituary for James Snr in 1939 refers to sons who followed his trade who were then working for two different engineering firms as "chief hands" - the sons are not named but this would seem to be John and James Jnr - as well as referring to Jane in Australia and Norman in Canada by name. No direct mention is made of William who is deceased or David.  As there is no reference to David it appears he may have died by 1939 as well but I have not found a likely death record.

Any assistance with information about David's fate would be appreciated.

Does the number of children alive and deceased at that time confirm if David was alive or no at that time?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Thank you - yes, the 1911 census shows 6 children born alive and 6 still living.
