HOPKIN Alfred 1912
« on: Wednesday 17 August 05 13:37 BST (UK) »
Strange as this may sound none of my family members remember anything much about my grandad Alfred Hopkin and he only died in 1978  >:(

lf anyone can found out anything l would be in your debt forever.

Small pieces l have dragged out of my father are:
Alfred was born in 1912
His Father was apparently called Alfred too.
He had a brother named Wilfred who born born around 1910.
All above originally lived in Hessle...my father was born at 69 worchestor road wold road hessle and he remembers it His Grandads house at the time.

Not much to go on l know.
If any further info is needed feel free to yell at me.

Thanks

Hi Rachel,

Where would he have been born?

Perhaps his birth will be on
http://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk/

Otherwise you may have to look up 1837online.

Can't find any Alfred Hopkin on 1901 Census in Yorkshire (though there are quite a few Alfred HopkinS's)

Hi and thankyou.

lve just been looking on family search and free bmd and l am now wondering if they dropped the 's' so Hopkins became Hopkin. For the elder Alfred lve just been informed that he could have been an Alfred Ernest and was born c1875. Alfreds son (also could have been alfred ernest as a letter l have to my grandmother from him is signed alfred e....until now l thought the e was just a mrak on the paper.)

My uncle has also remembered that Alfred senior was a policeman and then went on to 'rent' horses to the hull city council railroad. Theres also a mention of him living at some time or other at 9 Beeford Grove.

Rachel.

yorkshirebmd has 2 possible births

You say he died in 1978- well the one who Richard has just found with a DOB of 21 Sept 1911- did indeed die in the Sept 1/4 of 1978 in Whitby.

Yes, it was that entry that gave me the birth.
As the original question was from 2005 I imagine that things have moved on by now.

Hello
Thanks for the replies.
Yes! That is my Grandfather. l havent yet gained any new info regarding any of the Alfred Ernest Hopkin(s) as due to my grandparents on the 'other side' having critical health issues lve decided to plough through their ancestors whilst they are still around to show the results.

l will return to this one day in the not too distant future hopefully.

Many thanks again.

When you do come back to this side of the family I think you will need to buy the Alfred Hopkin/Rachel Langley marriage certificate.

Rachel is likely to be the Rachel Langley, 16, living in Sculcoates in 1901 with her parents William and Mary; age and father on the certificate would confirm.

There isn't an Alfred Hopkin of the right age, but there is an Ernest, 17, born in Hull, living in Sculcoates. Again, Ernest appears to be illegitimate. The certificate may give a clue.

1901  RG13/4466
Eliza J Would, 41, widow, b Laceby, Lincs
Ernest Hopkin, 17, son, b Hull
Albert Would, 15, son, b Hull

All three were there in 1891 as well.

Eliza Jane Hopkin  born Sep 1859   Caistor
Eliza Jane Hopkin m John Would   Jun 1884  Hull
John Would dies Mar 1887 age 37  Sculcoates
