Dead Soldier
« on: Saturday 27 July 19 10:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am researching one of my ancestors and was hoping to find out which conflict he would have died in,  his name was Thomas Morrison born Preston Lancashire 1881  and died 1902 , I do have a record which could have been him when he joined the forces.

The second Boer War was 1902, so that’s a possibility.

The record is from his short time in 3rd Battalion, a militia battalion, from July 1898 to October 1898 when, having completed his 49 days training, he transferred to the regular East Lancashire Regiment (it doesn't say which battalion)

However, the Boer War medal roll for 1st Battalion East Lancs has a T Morrison with the remark "invalided to England".  This is on Ancestry here:

He doesn't appear on the deaths at sea/overseas deaths so perhaps he died back in England and the record cited by Jebber is he.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

FindMyPast has army papers for 5818 Thomas Morrison ( the man who was invalided home from South Africa). Not wounded, but discharged medically unfit in 1902. Father James Morrison, 17 Crown Street.
