Hi Eilleen,
To rule out an early death, as RunKitty pointed out, death records can also be found on familysearch.  Many, many babies/toddlers can ONLY be found there; the royalbcmuseum collection did not include many of them (not sure why; possibly to maintain living parents privacy). Familysearch still has the transcriptions of everyone.

Anyways, make sure to check familysearch. Less is better for searching, so only enter: name, birth 1955 -1957 in British Columbia, death 1956 -1959 British Columbia, and see if you get a possible hit. Don't put cities, just British Columbia, as you don't know where it was registered.

If you do find a possibility, on the right side below the box where the image used to be, look for Document Information.  Click the drop down box, and make note of the Reference ID, and the Affiliate Film Number.  From that I can search on microfilm at my library.
