Overseas marriages wouldn't necessarily have shown up on the GRO Online - only if they were registered with the British Consulate (which is more likely in countries without their own robust civil registration arrangements).

I wonder whether Canada is a possibility, given that her mother appears to have been living there?

Hello Rosie

Nothing on CWGC for Ruthven-Murray

I no longer have a subscription to FindMyPast so do not have access to 1939 register only the preview.

Think I will have to park this query for now and come back to it later.

What is the source of the reference in Canada For Her mother please? FOUND IT!

Wow they flitted about this little family!!

Forget what I said about parking this query will dig around in Canada re marriage of Barbara Anne

So my daughter has a free 14 day trial of FindMyPast. 1939 register says Barbara is advertising ecec but finishing due to war.

I think I have found her mother, Stepfather and a step sister going to Canada waiting to check passenger lists to see if Barbara is with them

thank you

Ellen

Hull Daily Mail 24 July 1943.
The article mentions "Mrs. Ruthven-Murray of the Yugoslav Information Department" so she must have married Mr. Ruthven-Murray or changed her name before 24 July 1943.

The 1939 Register name change in 1944 could have been made by the NHS when she was treated at a hospital.

UPDATED:  I am beginning to doubt myself on the above, there is mention in newspapers of a Mrs. Ruthven-Murray in Hull in 1935, so maybe not Barbara  ???
