It looks like the family were having a bad run of luck.

A couple of weeks after Alfred was shot his 7-year old grandson, William (son of Walter) was also accidentality shot, by his friend Harold Skyes. Whilst William was bathing in drain Harold raised his gun to shoot at a pigeon flying over but caught the trigger on his coat.

At the time William was shot his mother was visiting her father-in-law in hospital. The newspaper reported that both Alfred and William were "progressing favourably".

Around 12 years later when I was at Boston Grammar school a boy in my class was accidentally shot in the eye by a shotgun pellet while beating (flushing out game birds from cover) to earn pocket money. Sadly he lost the sight in the eye. The use of guns continued to extract a toll from the community.Does it still?
