Pat Grainger. Diary of a Cleveland Miner
« on: Monday 05 August 19 12:52 BST (UK) »
Hi

For some years I have been researching the "Diary of a Cleveland Miner" kept by William Rowbottom an Ironstone Miner and resident of Margrove Park & Charltons Terrace and Boosebeck from 1873 to 1927.

The source is a transcription of the diary's entries published in the Cleveland Standard of Jan 28th 1939. There are over 230 different surnames involved.

A final few entries still remain stubbornly unsolved. As a final attempt to try and solve them I have turned to the good folk of RootsChat who may cast a new set of eyes over them and help me complete my research. I have tried all the usual available resources that I have access to currently.

26th October 1923  Pat Grainger was buried

Many Thanks

John

This is the only one in the area. No Pat male or female for 3rd or 4th quarter.

Buried where?  Quite a few of your other entries were in the Guisborough RD.

The absence of a title suggests "Pat" was male.

Have you checked the 1911 for Grainger entries?

Gone down the lines of Patrick or Patrica

Locally there are a few options for burial.

I have searched Redcar & Cleveland Cemetery index online but did not find a possible match.

Boosebeck Cemetery was not opened until 1930. Do not have access to Boosebeck Church burials.

In 1911 there is a Grainger family living at Margrove Park.

Thanks for your input

John

In 1924 William Rowbottom writes "Young Grainger and family went to Doncaster" which probably of the same family.

Just a thought - Irishmen used to be called Pat as a nickname  - could he have been an Irish man living in the area.

Only 4 male entries for the surname Grainger in Guisborough on the 1911 index.  However - if he was of Irish origins then he could have arrived anytime between 1911-1923

The Irish 1911 has 4 adult Patrick Grainger entries
