All Saints Church Broad Chalke
« on: Friday 16 August 19 16:23 BST (UK) »
I have been told that the font in All Saints Church in Broad Chalke, Wiltshire contains the 'Coat of Arms of a member of the Touchet Family.

As I live over 230 miles north of Broad Chalke, it will be a while before I can make a detour to take a look at it.

Does any Rootschatter pass through Broad Chalke and would it  be possible for them to take a photo of the Coat of Arms for me?

Regards

Hi rosie99,

Many thanks for the link. It is possible to see the  Coat of Arms on one of the photographs.
Thanks for the information.

To me the interesting thing about the  Coat of Arms is that in some respects it is very different from most Touchet /Lord Audley 'Coats of Arms'.  The fret in the Top Right and Bottom Left corners are typical of the Touchet/Lord Audley Coats of Arms. Touchet being the surname of the family that held the title of Lord Audley. However the unusual  things (or what I do not understand) is that the bottom Right Hand corner is blank and I cannot make out the symbol in the top left hand corner. Could it be a shell? These to corners normally contain a Chevron.

Thanks for your help

Hi Rosie99,

Not a problem.  As my surname is Audley it gives me another puzzle to resolve.
