Mystery of 2 katherine Newton#s marrying same year
« on: Thursday 22 August 19 05:30 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me please I have 2 Katherine Newtons 1 marrying an Arthur Ellis in Great Shelford in 1594 and 2 marrying a Christopher Rogers in Great Shelford in 1594. I can only see 1 birth in 1575 of a Katherine Newton in 1575 father Thomas Newton. Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

David

Where did the marriage information come from, please?

Have you seen the original entries?

There are baptisms to match each marriage also, so perhaps there were two different Katherines

Christopher Rogers
Baptism: 24 Oct 1603 son of Christopher and Katherin at Great Shelford

Richard Ellis
Baptism: 4 Jul 1606 at Great Shelford son of Arthur and Katherine at Great Shelford

Hi David

Many thanks for that information, at least that proves there was 2 differentmarriages. Did you get the information from the Great Shelford records, if so I wondered if there is any sign of the marrages there just to conirm the information.

Kind Regards

Dvid

The records are on Familysearch.

The earliest Ellis baptism is Luce in 1595 and the earliest Rogers is Margaret in 1594.

It also has the marriages from 'England Marriages, 1538-1973'

Findmypast also has the baptisms and marriages, together with the same from Boyd's Marriage Index.

Unfortunatly, no images and only the year of the marriages.

Hi Many thanks for that confirmation, that is where I got the information from for th marriages. Just to make it even more con fusing from the same source there is another marriage in 1581 in Great Shelford for Katherin Newton and John Rogers. How many Newton families are there in that area ?

David
