Old Brampton Church Burial Record
« on: Thursday 22 August 19 21:48 BST (UK) »

I’m looking for the record of the burial of Abraham Rowarth, told he is most likely to be buried with his wife Anna Hill Rowarth at St. Peter & St. Paul Church Old Brampton.
Anna died on the 19th April 1926 aged 75yrs at Brookside Cottage, Brampton  and was buried in the churchyard on the 23rd April.
Abraham died on the 6th April 1928 aged 83yrs at Newbold Rd, Chesterfield. He had farmed at Freebirch Farm for many years.
There is no monument to them in the churchyard.
I’ve contacted all the churches and cemeteries in the area without any luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi spendlove
Thanks for your reply.
Apologies  for my late reply to you.
I contacted Chesterfield Bereavement Service, where a kind lady did a free search but no luck.
She explained that the service only covers Staveley, Brimington,  Spital and Baythorpe.
Thanks again spendlove

Was the address on the death certificate 9a Newbold Road?  If it is it's the old Workhouse, later Scarsdale Hospital.  The nearest churches to there are Holy Trinity and Christchurch. Hope this helps.

Thank you LizTJ  for your reply.
Abraham lived with his daughter, Elsie Sheldon's at her home No. 7. Newbold Rd.
I sent for a Death Certificate and it states the death address was No 12a. Newbold Rd. where he died of Hypostatic Pneumonia and Senile Decay.
I didn't know about the history of No.9a Newbold Rd.
I recently contacted Old Brampton Church again and after visiting to see the plan of headstones in the churchyard I couldn't see a headstone bearing Abraham's name. (Take a magnifying glass if you intend to visit and read all the names on it.)
I again contacted the Vicar who kindly searched the burial records where he verified that Abraham is buried with his wife in an unmarked grave at Old Brampton but the Vicar gave me yet another death address as No.7. Walton Crescent, Bagthorpe! At least I now know where Abraham and his wife are buried. Mystery Solved!
Thank you spendlove and LizTJ for your time and  help.
Bill.

Sorry, can't read my own scrappy writing.  12a Newbold Road was the address of the workhouse/Scarsdale Hospital.  I'm glad you found who you were looking for.  Could the address be 7 Walton Crescent BOYTHORPE?  This is in Chesterfield. There is a Bagthorpe but it's near Ripley on the Derbys/Notts border. As far as I know there is no Walton Crescent there.
I am local to the area.

Thank you for the update Liz TJ. I’m sure you’re correct with the address. I checked the information given to me by the Brampton Vicar and it reads Bagthorpe. He probably misread Boythorpe.
