Finding a Will for Thomas Breakspear from 1888 Brooklyn
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 09:04 BST (UK) »
I would like to know how I can find out if Thomas Breakspear, born about 1817 in England, left a Will  when he died in 1888, and if so, how could I get a copy.   He was in Jamaica for a number of years, around 1830 - 1850's.

I’ve not looked through them yet, so don’t know if the three five 1888 films are in date order or alphabetical. I don’t think they are indexed.

Sometimes the original indexes  are in the images themselves. I haven't looked at this batch yet though (too early here).

The index to wills is here

No Thomas Brakespear.
But, as I said, there is an administration.

Thank you for replies.    So was an Administration because he did not leave a Will ?    I can see the names of his children but I was hoping to see the son he supposedly had here in England in 1839, to confirm this was his father !   Long tale.   But if it was the father, he had obviously set up a new family, first in Jamaica, and then in USA.

What is the son's name?

What is the name of the mother of this son?

Thank you knort33 for offering to help with this.  I think I have accepted there is no actual Will but the Administration does give the names of his children - and it does not say 'to my son Thomas Breakspear Salmon in England' !   He and his children were living in New York around the time of his death.

But if you look under Other Countries - Jamaica, you will see lots of communication about this family there.  It is quite near the top as I posted on there about 1 hour ago.
