I found an entry for a marriage of a Charles BLAKE to an Elizabeth Wells in Apr 1898 in London. I have been sitting on this for a while, but have now ordered the marriage certificate to see if it confirms that it is my William Charles Lake and that there had been a transcription error or whether he lied about his name again!
I now need to find out what happened to his son Evan Charles Albert Lake who stayed in Canada when his father left to go back to England with his new wife in Sept 1913. In 1916 I found him in an Industrial Training School in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you susano. Very helpful. Interesting link to the Industrial Training School. Sounds like my relative must have been a naughty boy. I would like to find out more about him and how he ended up in this place.

There is a Chas. Lake, in the 1921 Census, aged 22, in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, arrived 1914, seemingly with a wife named Ethel, aged 31, born England, and a child Evelyn(?), aged 1, born Saskatchewan.  Charles is a farm hand working on the farm of William Stone.

Thanks Eileen, I will look into it. too old for the father who was born about 1873, but the son Evan Charles Albert Lake born 1897 could have been using the name Chas at that time and would be at right age to settle with a wife and child. He was taken to Canada in 1903 but knowing my lot they could have given false information.

There is a Chas Lake age 22 in the same location as Chas and Ethel (above) in the 1916 census.

I don't know if you have seen this record Bigpond?

Kate Rossiter arrived in St John New Brunswick 07 Dec 1912 on Route to Broadview Saskatchewan. Note says to be married. She w/h travelled by train from St John. I can't find the record on the LAC website but the image is available on Anc***.

Edited to add the link to the 1916 census....

Same family in Weyburn in 1926.  Charles is listed as C. R. Lake, born in England and came to Canada in 1912.
