Seeking help to find Elizabeth James
« on: Thursday 29 August 19 06:49 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the correct Elizabeth James.

I have her marrying John Huthnance 12 Oct 1845 at St Ives, Cornwall.

In the 1851 census, she is 23 yo, birthplace St. Ives
In the 1861 census, she is 33 yo, birthplace St. Ives
In the 1871 census, she is 43 yo, birthplace St. Ives
In the 1881 census, she is 52 yo, birthplace St. Ives
In the 1891 census, she is 62 yo, birthplace St. Ives

I have her death registered at Redruth, June Qtr, 1893, age 64.

All this points to her birth being 1828-1829.

Looking at the Cornwall OPC records, I find 12 records, none being in St. Ives.
Family Search has about 20 baptisms for the period.
Ancestry has as many.

I would like to be able to find the correct Elizabeth, to hopefully, trace her further back.

Any assistance would be very gratefully received.

Do you have her marriage certificate? This should show the name and occupation of her father and names of the witnesses ( hopefully related) which could help to identify her.

PS I have just checked Cornwall OPC site.
Father named as Thomas on marriage record.
Baptism at St Ives 9 Sep 1827. Elizabeth James, SON of Thomas and Elizabeth.
Remember census usually taken early in the year. In 1851, for example, it would have been before her 24th birthday, implying year of birth as 1828.

Brentor Boy, thank you for your prompt reply.

I do not have the marriage certificate, as she is one of the side branches of my tree.

For some reason, I did not check the OPC site for their marriage :-[ :-[ which would have given me her fathers name. I was concentrating on the baptism, and forgot about the marriage side DOH!!

Again, many thanks for your help.
