Arthur C. Skingsley
« on: Saturday 31 August 19 21:37 BST (UK) »
Arthur Cornelius Skingsley sometimes just Arthur or just Cornelius stated his birthplace as Berkshire in the census from 1851-1911 with a approximate birth 1841-1843. But I can’t find his baptism. ???

His parents could have been Arthur John Skingsley and Margaretta.

From another post I saw that the father Arthur Skingsley had a daughter Eliza 1829 in India with a previous wife . Maybe Arthur Cornelius was born in India too?

Most unlikely he was born in India given his parents are on the 1841 census in Berkshire.  1851 shows he was aged 9 and born Swallowfield Berks.  Daughter Harriet was also b Swallowfield 1840

Her birth is on freebmd and her mmn was MASH.  Same mmn for birth of daughter Rosina shown on 1851

Hi,

There is a Cornelius Skingsley who  married Sarah Charlton 8-11-1862 Swallowfield All Saints. He was aged 20, a Brickmaker s/o Arthur, a labourer whilst Sarah was the d/o Thomas a farmer, botp

This ties in with suzard's reply.

Thank you all! ;D

Yes he married Sarah Charlton, I think she was the Sarah Charlton who was born 1840 illegitimate in Swallowfield to Sarah.

Arthur John Skingsley was born in Essex around 1797, in one census it says Essex,Hieson, maybe High Easter ? There’s a John baptised  1797 in High Easter parents James and Sarah

I fond Arthur John's army records and his p.o.b. is given as High Easter Essex on several sections - he was 15 years old when he signed up and occupation Labourer and think he served just over 29 years -although think his discharge was 1839 through unfit to serve (disabilities) I will check further if you require that information

Hi suzard,

I would love to know more about his time in the army, where he served and what exactly he did :)
