Bristol Parish Registers
« on: Thursday 05 September 19 20:31 BST (UK) »
Images of the Bristol parish registers have now been uploaded to Ancestry. They have only just appeared and the search facility is still rather unstable - many 'page not responding' type answers. These are the diocese of Bristol and so include a few Somerset and many south Gloucestershire parishes. Ps to mods. - shouldn't Bristol have its own page as it was a sepatate county?

Steve, I was born at Southmead Hospital, but my family (and myself) always lived in Portishead, Somerset.

I have played a fair bit of croquet over the years, but was told that, in the Inter-Counties Championship, I had to play for Gloucestershire (apparently where I was born?), and couldn't play for Somerset! :o

Apparently they use the Association of British Counties - who don't recognise the City & County of Bristol as a "true" county?!
Maybe RC do likewise?

I too was born at Southmead Hospital, and we always lived in Britol itself. This did lead me to supporting Glos rather than Somerset, but my researches have found more of my ancestors in the latter. I made the remark about a Bristol page more in jest than hope, but it might solve continuing confusion as to the status of Bristol and the whereabouts of its records,

Rootschat doesn't seem to ever change its page structure, but if they did, I would be suggesting the existing section should simply be renamed "Bristol and Gloucestershire" or more likely "Gloucestershire and Bristol" in the same way as the entirely similar "London and Middlesex".
Rutter, Sampson, Swinerd, Head, Redman in Kent.  Others in Cheshire, Manchester, Glos/War/Worcs.
RUTTER family and Matilda Sampson's Will:

Off to search with fingers crossed.  My 2X great grandparents were married 15 June 1828 at St John Baptist in Bristol.  Would love to see if I can find witnesses as I can’t trace any further back for James Janes (or James).  The family of his wife lived for centuries in and around Keynsham, but he seems to have come from Langford or Bridgewater.

P.S. Steve my great grandmother was a Heale from Keynsham.
James -Victoria, Australia originally from Keynsham, Somerset.
Janes - Keynsham and Bristol area.
Heale/Hale - Keynsham, Somerset
Vincent - Illogan/Redruth, Cornwall.  Moved to Sculcoates, Yorkshire; Grass Valley, California; Timaru, New Zealand and Victoria, Australia.
Williams somewhere in Wales - he kept moving
Ellis - Anglesey

Nanna52, what period are your Heales? Mine were c1630-1720 and then my direct branch seemed to die out, but there were branches I haven't found yet,

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Heale born 1834 Keynsham and died 1906 in Fitzroy, Victoria.
Her parents were George Heale (1804-1866) and Elizabeth Knight.(1808-1886)
Then George Heale (1774-1852)and Hester Williams.(1781-1858)
James Heale (1730-   )and Edith Fox.  (1735-1820)
Abraham Heale (1700-1776) and Francis Aprichatt.

My great grandmother used Heale, but others eventually leaned towards Hale.  Her older sister married Elijah Aust and also came out to Australia.  I believe the rest stayed in England.

My great grandfather was Alfred James (Janes).  They married in Bath September 1851 and came out here.

Haven’t got as far back as yours.
