Barbara LILLICRAP/LILLYCRAP
« on: Sunday 08 September 19 21:58 BST (UK) »
Barbara was born ca 1814/16 allegedly at Turnchapel (1861, 1871 & 1881 Census) or Plymouth (1851 & 1891 Census). I believe her to be the daughter of John LILLICRAP & wife Mary GRAY and is one of 9 children. 8 of these 9 were baptised - not Barbara as far as I can determine.

Barbara married John SQUANCE in 1838 and her father is described as John LILLYCRAP, waterman.

In 1841, a now married Barbara (SQUANCE) is living in Notte Street - her youngest sister Jane LILLICRAP is also present. In 1851, she is living with her alleged parents and is described as 'daughter'. In 1861, her mother had died but her father is living with Barbara & husband John SQUANCE.

I have searched everywhere for her baptism. Brothers baptised either side of her birth were baptised at Plymouth St Andrew. Other siblings were baptised at Plympton Erle, Shaugh Prior and Plymouth Charles. Any suggestions, inspirational thoughts please?

There is a record on familysearch for a baptism of Barbara in Devon, 1805 in Devon Parish registers. Could be a transcribe error.

Definately not transcription error

Parish records from image
8 Dec 1805 baptism
Anglican Shaugh Prior
Barbara Lillicrap daughter of Thomas and Mary

but this is confusing -same page next but one entry above
18 Oct 1805 baptism Sarah Lillicrap daughter of Thomas & Mary

would the same family baptise children almost 2 months apart??

Thanks for looking but not my Barbara. The 1805 Barbara married George RICH and lived in Shaugh Prior all her life.

The two 1805 baptisms at Shaugh Prior relate to two different sets of parents named Thomas & Mary. One wife is Mary NORTHMORE and the other is Mary DAMARELL. Between them they had 19 children - it took me forever to try and work out which child belonged to which set of parents!
