Commonwealth Graves Commssion are seeking relatives of Lt Charles  James Tomlinson (1891 - 1920) who died 6 th January 1920 and is buried at West Norwood Cemetery and Crematorium London. Charles James Tomlinson of the 3rd Bn. King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry - wife of Mary Tomlinson of Tulse Hulse Hill London.

The Commonwealth Graves Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.  This casualty was previously commemorated on the Brookwood 1914-1918 Memorial - his name will be removed when the appropriate panel is next replaced.

The probate for Charles 2 June 1920 to Mary Tomlinson 81 Leigham Vale Streatham London.

Charles and Mary had a daughter Muriel C Tomlinson - birth registered quarter 1 of 1918 - mothers maiden name was Kirby. 1d 598

There was a marriage of Charles James Tomlinson to Mary Kirkby at All Saints, West Dulwich Lambeth 21 December 1916. The father of Charles was listed as Richard Vaughan Tomlinson -
the father of Mary Kirkby was James Kirkby. Both fathers were decesaed at that date.

There was a death of Richard Vaughan Tomlinson registered quarter 2 of 1902 at Wandsworth - 1d 411

Probate for Richard Vaughan Tomlinson of "Braemore" 12 Atney Road Putney Surrey and 2 Princes Street  London died 11 April 1902 - probate to John Joseph Corbin solicitor Bertie Richard
Tomlinson Public Company Secretary and Walter Cyril Tominson Chartered Accountant.

Richard Vaughan Tombinson married Catherine Frances Eason 28 October 1873 St George, Bloomsbury, Camden.

There was a death for Catherine F Tomlinson registered quarter 3 1926 - Lambeth London - 1d 289
Catherine was a widow. Probate to Arthur Vaughan Tomlinson engineer 26 November 1926

Arthur Vaughan (Lancaster) Tomlinson listed on the probate for Catherine Frances Tomlinson married Maud Margaret Lina Childs 23 October 1916 - St Stephen, South Dulwich, Southwark. Father listed as Richard Vaughan Tomlinson.

Arthur Vaughan Tomlinson died 5 October 1943 - Surrey - probate 12 November 1943 Llandudno to Maud Margaret Tomlinson (widow)

Possibility of a couple of female children to this couple.

Eileen Frances Tomlinson married Francis James Lenman - 1944 - Chelsea - 1a 623
Two births registered - June 1945 and Decmber 1947
Seems the second birth was Arthur Hamish Lenman - Decmber 1947 and died quarter 2 1964 - Oxford - 6b 2552

Beryl M N Tomlinson married quarter 4 1947 Worthing Sussex to Hugh F G Richards..

Looks like the daughter may have married and moved to South Africa - South Africa, Biographical Index shows a Paul V Rands - 10 December 1914 - spouse Muriel Catherine Tomlinson - married 1 January 1938 - Dir. P. N. Barrett Co. (Pty.) Ltd.; Vice-Pres. The Assoc of Accredited Practitioners in Advtg.: prev. Advtg. Mgr. United Tobacco Cos. (Suth) Ltd., Nat.Chair. Soc. Of Advertisers. Educ. Whitgift Sch. Croydon, Surrey, England. 2 s, 2 d. Came to S.A. 17 Fe  ??


Might have found a relative on ancestry or someone who can help CWGC. Fingers crossed.

Daughter Muriel married a Paul Vivian Rands in 1938 but no births from that marriage that I can find in the UK or deaths.????

Father of Walter Richard Vaughan Tomlinson - Secretary to public companies.

The son Egreton Vaughan Tomlinson born 1905 died 1950 - registered quarter 4 - Eastbourne Sussex - 5h 227

Egerton V Tomlinson married Gertrude J Leefe in 1929 - quarter 2 - Kingston Surrey - 2a 1078
Egerton was a school master.

A daughter born 1934 Eastbourne to this couple. They may still be living Hailsham East Sussex area.  Might have had a daughter born in 1965 Hailsham Surrex - 5H 347


Gertrude Tomlinson may have remnarried in 1952 - Alfred J Hullett - Wandsworth London - 5d 1865
