We all like a little mystery, don't we? And don't worry, we can just stop replying when/if  we are fed up  ;)

Something that's not very clear for me is who the parents left behind when they moved, and who they took with them. Also, the (missing) children you mention would be the youngest, right? Guess they would have been born quite quickly after the others, as they are away from home in 1881.

Is there a 1871 Census for Canada? Would be worth checking whether they can be found  there.

Also, what sort of records have you been given about this family?
Do you know where they were later, who they married? I guess everything little thing we discover could lead us to the others...

Sorry, this is not much help.

Tanja

Woops, just checked the Ancestral file Catherine posted. It suggests there were OLDER children with a first wife Nancy (i.e. George b. 1831). Have you already looked into this possibility?

The George Outrams I have in my records so far are:

George OUTRAM b. 1814 Dronfield
George OUTRAM b. 1831 Staveley (1814's son)

George OUTRAM b. 1861 Sheffield (1814's nephew)

George Hy OUTRAM b. 1893 Sheffield (1861's nephew)

I think all people should issue an order to their kids banning them from naming their children or marrying anyone with any name pre-existing in the entire family tree, in consideration of future genealogists!

This coming from someone whose sister in law has precisely the same name as her...

Grrr...

Edensor (Endensor?) is right near Chesterfield so would be in the same neck of the woods... They're all probably related but I think it's just a question of finding out how!

Yes, they really give us headaches, don't they  :P

Just wanted to say: Never actually trust Ancestral files before you have any proof...

I have tentatively added the ancestral file as it still fits with the other information I have.

Remember the George who everyone knew he had 8 kids - only 7 of them were known - the missing child could be either 1831George or Eliza. Or it could be both of them, you never know.

I will find out in a week - I just ordered Eliza's marriage certificate online :)

I will contact the guy who gave me the original information tonight and ask him if he has any record of the ancestral file's information from a different source.
