ID number search for grandparents

I'm trying to track down the ID numbers of my great-grandparents and grandfather, and am having no luck. Could someone please point me in the right direction on how to get these?

Welcome to RootsChat Catherine (a bit belated).

My SA research is very limited so I'm probably not the best person to offer advice but I've used identitynumber.org and managed to find ID numbers, and other info, of various relations.

They provide a number of searches where you can enter a person's name, including death notices, maiden name and immigrated. The free results include the person's full name and DoB.

To get the ID number you do need to take out a paid subscription, which are rolling 30 day subscriptions (so just be sure to cancel the sub. after getting the info you need).

you can also use Gendatabase.com it has a daily subscription fee that does not rollover

Dont wast your time to go to Home Affairs, unless your have the ID no's. It will just come back blank. Eich
