« on: Thursday 26 September 19 16:44 BST (UK) »
hello ..... can someone help..

trying to find an Agnes Lin/lLinn , she was born in Ireland , but have no idea where although I suspect Northern Ireland .

she is aged 54 , living with her brother William Lin/Linn in Irvine , Ayrshire Scotland in the 1851 census 595/00 001/00 015 , but after that I cant find her !

in the 1861 census he is living with his son William , daughter and her husband 595/00 003/00 012 , but no mention of Agnes ...

I have looked for her in deaths and other census but to no avail !

its actually her brother William who is my 3rd x great grand father !
any help would be gratefully appreciated !
regards
Elinga

In Ireland, especially Northern Ireland, the surname is often Lynn or Lynd and Agnes is interchangeable with Nancy, Hannah, Ann(e).

Unfortunately, the dates you are looking for information are well before the start of civil registration in Ireland, few census fragments survive and many church records either don't go back far enough or are not searchable online.

You really do need a location in Ireland to start looking to see what, if any, records might be available, and of course their religion will help in searching for church records.

Have you, or any relatives, done a DNA test yet to see if any links appear that way?

If I'm reading previous thread corrected then William Linn married Margaret McAlister and his (so presumably Agnes') parents were Robert Linn & Agnes?

Added- meant to say that I know several descendants of N.I. Lynd/Lynn families that have done DNA tests.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Was Agnes Single/Widow on 1851?

Widows often reverted back to their maiden name.

If she died pre 1855 it's unlikely you will find a death recorded as it wasn't necessary sadly.

Looks like Agnes was unmarried.

FYI. In April 1894, an Agnes Linn, wife of James Smith, died at Stewarton, age 64. Stewarton is 7 miles from Irvine. Further, a second Agnes Linn of Kilmarnock also died in 1894, age 73 years.

Edit: Further information added.
Further Edit: Apologies, just now noted your reply.

Very confusing with so many threads looking for William Linn, Agnes Linn, etc. The first quote on 1 thread is where I must have seen Robert & Agnes-
I have a 1851 census from Scotland stating that
William Linn was 8 years old and born in Irvine Ayrshire.
his parents were Robert who is 60 in the census and his mother is Agnes aged 54 (I think)and both born in Ireland.

Are there 2 Agnes Linns in 1851 census aged 54 years?
… Agnes Lin/lLinn , she was born in Ireland , but have no idea where although I suspect Northern Ireland .
she is aged 54 , living with her brother William Lin/Linn in Irvine , Ayrshire Scotland in the 1851 census 595/00 001/00 015 , but after that I cant find her !

aghadowey, well I have been looking for them for quite some time with the wrong information !
I understand what your saying !
dont know where I got Robert from , but that was wrong , William was his father !
I  was also wrong  that I stated his mother was Agnes !
the 1851 census stated
William Linn head aged 60
Agnes Linn sister  aged 54
William Linn son aged 8
