To look up a marriage you have to know which church it took place in and whether their records have been deposited with the records office or are still with the church

This could have been a registry office marriage which can’t be looked up

These are all the areas within the West Ham RD

https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/west%20ham.html

The 2 names shown for the bride - Bartlett & Traveller - indicate she was previously married

There are a lot of James Lee marriages - what has made you select this one?

I note the birth registration of James in 1912 (No middle name)

From the 1911 census in Barrhead I guess one pair of those below are his parents?

HENRY LEE married JANE COLEMAN 1906

WALTER LEE married ELIZABETH YOUNG MCWHIRTER 1908

There are 35 marriages for a James Lee in Scotland 1928 - 1942 alone.

However you seem to know that he moved to England, do you know when?

What was the last date he was known to be alive?

From that it might be possible to find his death record and work back.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thank you for the reply Colin. Henry and Jane are his parents (my grandparents).
He seems to be an enigma. As far as I know he still lived in Scotland during WW2, post 1945 I don’t know where he went. Due to the generation gap I have struggled to find any information.

His “nickname” was James the Gypsy as I have been told he travelled around a lot. The only possible clue where he went was London where he apparently found work.

I have no idea if, or when he died.

Many thanks,
Steve

There is no death in E&W with that specific birthdate but full birthdates were not shown on death registrations until 1969

From 1970 the date of birth was recorded, the last available year on free bmd is 1992, there were no deaths for James born 6 Nov 1912

Thank you Colin that’s very helpful. This is one door in which I can now close.

I know he served drying ww2 as I have a photo of him in his uniform. I have contacted the MOD and requested his military record, but I required his death certificate.

Many thanks,
Steve
