Army photo 1914-1918 William Charles Marsh
« on: Sunday 29 September 19 19:02 BST (UK) »
I believe this photo shows my Grandfather, William Charles Marsh, born  21 AUGUST 1887,Pimlico, London, died 21 MAR 1949, 52 Charterhouse Avenue Wembley

The back of the postcard gives the printer as being Charles S Harris 77 London Road, Dover.

I would be grateful for anything anyone can tell me about this photo.

Could it be different sports teams connected to the military. There appears to be several different shirts worn by the men.

Bownass - Lancashire & Westmorland
Hoggarth - Lancashire & Westmorland
Jackson- Lancaster
Waller - Dent, Yorkshire dales
Omerod - Lancashire
Redburn - Lancashire
Evans - Hereford

The only one in Army uniform is the officer in the middle. His collar dogs look as if they could be the crossed swords of what is now the Army Physical Training. By the look of the hair-styles this photo is pre WW1 which makes the unit the Army Gymnastic Staff. Perhaps somebody can confirm whether they also used the crossed swords ?

Thank you all for your thoughts. I wondered if it was a photo of men taking part in somekind of sport. Which regiment do you think they would belong too? I am trying to track which regiment my grandfather joined.

I have found some information on Wikipedia.
The corps cap badge, which is also worn on the front of its vests, t-shirts and tracksuits, consists of crossed swords surmounted by a crown.
