« on: Sunday 29 September 19 22:18 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have posted about the Pott family in the past, but I have been rechecking and have a problem
John Pott born 1743-1744 , I have looked him up on FreeReg and found Father listed as John? I had Thomas :-\So I need to sort this out ! I think he was married to Rachel Hegginbottom. Any help on his Father and Mother ? Thankyou

Is the name Potts or Pott?
What makes you think that the person on FreeReg is yours? Does the place/year of birth match any other source?
I see that Family Search has the baptism of a John Pot at Mellor on 27 May 1744. No parents named unfortunately, but only 6 miles from where your John was married ( you think). Could just as easily be yours.

Do you know of any siblings?
Why do you think Thomas may be the father?

Thanks for the marriage details ciderdrinker.  I had some help on here as to who might be parents of John, I know Thomas and Mary were given, Thomas was abt 1712 I think. I can't find a marriage that would fit with Johns birth. All I know is Thomas Father was Thomas! Can't find Mother's MDN for John either.  ???

 ::)Thanks Pheno.. Brain overload!
I have Thomas Pott born 1713  Mellor .
Buried 1759.  But Spouse Hannah Wheyworth Heginbothome? 6 Children
Twins Enoch and Samuel. John Potts 1741. Thomas Parents ,Thomas and Elizabeth.
I also found baptisms at Mellor Parents Thomas and Mary Sidebottom, but can't find John Potts amongst them. Neither can I find a marriage for Thomas and Mary.
So which of these records is the correct one? Anyone help at all?

Hello
There is a Thomas Pott baptised at Mellor 27 June 1713 son of Thomas Pott.

Thomas Pott  buried 8.11.1759

Marriage at Marple to Hanah Heginbothome 22 Dec 1736 both of Mellor

Children of Thomas at Mellor
Benjamin Sep 1736 son of  Mary Sidebottom and Thomas Pott.(looks like they weren't married)
Mathew 1738 s of Thomas Pott
Enoch 1741 s of Thomas Pott.
Samuel and John 1744 twins with no parent given.
Amey 1754 d of Thomas Pott

So all that fits

As you know there are only  Thomas and his wife  and Esther Potts having children at Mellor so Samuel and John must be the sons of one of them and Thomas and Esther are siblings ,both children of Thomas and Elizabeth Potts.

Mathew's Will of 1787 names his brother Samuel ,so John must also be his brother because he is Samuel's twin.If Mathew is the son of Thomas ,then Samuel and John must be his sons too.

Thomas and Elizabeth 's eldest child John was baptised 1700 and youngest Thomas 1713.
I can't see a marriage for them.

Does that help?

ciderdrinker.  Thank you for going to all that trouble!  It is SO confusing as Hannah and Thomas had children with same names as those with Father Thomas and/or Thomas, Mother Mary.
I am not sure if parents of Thomas that married Hannah were Thomas and Elizabeth yet.  I will now stop searching for a marriage between Thomas and Mary Sidebottom :o. I dont think there was one either! and I have looked everywhere.I had the same problem with my Maternal Nan and Grandad, never found a marriage.
The Hannah and Thomas I was looking at had twins Enoch and Samuel... I do know that I recieved a hint a while back for a Enoch as being the Grandfather of Thomas b 1713..also I think John Potts had a daughter Hannah who didn't live very long.  As I have mentioned, my Family Tree got lost..Mary Sidebottom remains from that.  I will see what I can find. Thanks again
