Marriage out of area
« on: Friday 04 October 19 13:38 BST (UK) »
I have a 4th marriage for an ancestor whose 3 previous wives all died and at least 2 had been married in church.
The ancestor lived in Enfield, Middlesex, certainly from 1839 onwards until his death in 1871.  He is on all the census there.
His 1st & 2nd marriages had been at St Botolphs, Bishopsgate and St Lukes, Old Street.  The 3rd marriage has yet to be found.
The 4th marriage in 1859 is at St Andrew, Holborn. In the 1841 census his wife is living in Enfield with her parents.
Why would they marry in Holborn?

He seems to have favoured central/ City of London (or its borders) churches. Did he have family there, or work centrally?

He was a licensed victualler in Enfield from 1839 and then started a nursery business.  He lived in Enfield until he died.

I believed that all his wives came from parts of London and that was why he married there.  But it seems that this one lived in Enfield.

I'm assuming that you have the 1859 marriage entry - addresses?  And can I assume that the first two marriages were prior to 1839 as you have him living in Enfield from 1839 onwards.

OK, so his 4th wife was living in Enfield in 1841, but where was she in 1851, and which wife was HE with in 1841 and 1851?

Possibly stupid questions, but you haven't offered very much information.  :-\

Thank you BumbleB, rosi99 and Annette7 for your replies.
I have everything.  Except the very elusive marriage number 3.
But
my big question is why is marriage 4 in the Smoke when both were living in Enfield?
