:) Phil, as you know, I know that John Hurley/Hurly was a Publican/Inn Keeper in 1841 census, Frederick Hurley aged 5 in Bawdrip looks to be a visitor to the Crocker household, possibly James Hurly 16 was also a visitor to John & Frances?

The details of the marriage between John and Frances in 1834 that are online (Find my Past) have his surname as Hurding. It is odd as there is no place shown for the location of the marriage. I have found another version using Frances Cribb in the search. This has the same details posted by Comberton, that the marriage was in Wookey and John is shown as Harding. Ancestry has the original Marriage Banns and it is clearly John Harding. He is a bachelor, of the parish of Wookey. Frances is a spinster and of the parish of Ilminster. It looks as though we may have to rule out this marriage.

My other concern is that there appear to be a number of people by the name of John Hurley in the Bridgewater area. This is based on entries that come up on Find my Past.

The entry for John Hurley, Frances and James in the 1841 census shows that neither John, nor James, was born in Somerset. In view of the age difference between John and Frances, 45 and 35 respectively, I did wonder if it was a second marriage. It may be less than that in view of the ages being rounded up, or down, to the nearest five years in the 1841 census.

There are trees for John Hurley on Ancestry which have him born 1795, Cannington, Somerset. The original parish register is on Ancestry which shows a baptism for John Hurley on 19 April 1795, son of Richard and Minissa Hurley. The mother's name is difficult to decipher. The tree has her maiden name as Phippen.

There are three Family Trees on Ancestry for Frederick Hurley, quite definitely the same person as we are looking for. Two of these are public and one private. One tree has his father as John Hurley, mother Frances Cribb but the other has no details for the parents.

I think it needs more research to identify the correct details for Frederick Hurley. What is your interest philrmoon?

Jo
