Schunemann or Schunnemann

Christian Schunemann 1858-1928. Born at Steinacker,  Schleswig Holstein; migrated c1880 to USA; fetched up at South Dakota where he married twice with children, and died there.
Looking for baptism record of 1858-1859 at Flensburg and district. Through Archion database not at Esgrus nor Kappeln.  Not confirmation 1857 at either of those churches.

Where did you get the place names Steinacker, Flensburg, Esgrus and Kappel from?
Who were his parents
etc

Steinacker appears in Meyer's Gazeteer as part of Niesgrau,  Kreis Flensburg. Today a street. Steinacker taken from earliest research by family, unsourced. Meyer's Gazeteer refers to Kappeln and Esgrus.  From Google map they looked to be closest parish churches to Steinacker,  Steinbergkirche on current map; seemed a likely starting place.
There may be other parish churches in that area.
Looking for the 1858-59 baptism record in order to discover parents. Parents are not named on death certificate.
Previous family research from US has brought this result to Steinacker,  not corroborated.

My first thought was that it should be Schönemann, but I see the name Schünemann exists in north Germany, probably a variant of Scheunemann (Scheune = barn).  Names of immigrants to the USA were frequently corrupted.

Thanks,  yes "Etymologisches worterbuch fur Deutschen familiennamen", by Brechenmacherr, has 'Schuenemann' = barn+man.

Esgrus, Kappel, Flensburg etc. are all places in  Schleswig-Holstein (Slesvig-Holsten in Danish)
Schleswig-Holstein was under Danish jurisdiction up till 1864

The Danish rule ended in 1864 with the  2. Slesvigske Krig - Deutsch-Dänischer Krieg

So that means the Schünemann´s were living in Denmark at the time of Christians Birth.
