Strangeways Prison inmate request

My father's cousin ended up in Strangeways Prison in approximately 1937. Does anyone know if I can access records to find his length of stay and the reason for his incarceration ?

His name was Norman Rupert Simms and his year of birth was 1910.

Born in Bucks and married 1931 Bedfordshire.   Long way from home

I have looked in the newspaper archives and cannot find anything.

According to his niece, he wrote to her father from Strangeways. It would appear that before that he may well have been frequently absent from the family home.

Have you looked to see if he was still there in 1939?

I have searched for him in 1939 and cannot find him.

Can't see any death registration for him or his wife

His wife got a divorce of the grounds of desertion and remarried in 1940 In Coventry. That's where she was in 1939 masquerading as her husband-to-be's wife.
