Is there an address look up option for census
« on: Friday 11 October 19 13:47 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm  stumbling with finding information on someone on the 1870 census. I have the address from a marriage certificate from 1863. Is there an option to look up returns just using an address?
Thank you!

Yes, on Findmypast. There are also street indexes for some years and towns at the National Archives.

Yes. Both Findmypast and Ancestry offer address search options. You need to access the relevant census from the catalogue to get the appropriate search screen.

As far as I can see there is only an address search option for the 1911 census on Ancestry.

Also on The Genealogist for England & Wales censuses. But there was no 1870 census in the UK. Do you mean the 1870 US census?

Yes, you are right Stan. My mistake. Some of the earlier ones allow you to narrow it down a bit by District and Household Schedule number if you can figure out where the address would have been on the enumerator’s route.
