GFX6?
« on: Monday 14 October 19 19:24 BST (UK) »
Ok i,m almost convinced my gfx6 is a John Ellis who married Sussanah Wilson in 1763 (Wellington). Problem is, searching a birth record for John, there are 2 possibilities, annoyingly both born within 2 yrs of each other, One 1739 and one 1741. The 1739 record gives his father as Richard who married Elianor Hayes (or Hughes-there are 2 records just to confuse things) in 1738 his age is 30 and Elianor is a widow, therefore his birth is 1708. The 2nd record is of the 1741 John born to Joseph and Anne Garbett who married in 1730. Joseph was born in 1708 and also Richard! AND both fathers are named as Edward! To make things worse, there are 2 dates for Edwards marriage to Ursula Jones-5 jan 1700 and 6 june 1701....Any ideas folks cos i,m lost!

How many of those records have you seen with your own eyes. ?

What one person sees can differ from s second or third transcriber. Are they all the same source, eh parish registers Vs BT?
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

The marriage register image for the marriage of John & Susanna is on FindMyPast, both baptisms are there too   :)

Baptisms don't have any more information.

Thanks Rosie, i,ll check that out, although i have the marriage cert already his father isnt named. Just doing some searching on Richard and Elianor (Haynes or Haines) as i said above, they were married in 1738 and she is a 30 yr old widow which made me think Richard must be widowed too as 30 is a late age for marriage. There is a record of Elianor Haynes marrying a Thomas Reynolds in 1734 and a death record for Thomas in 1736 which fits, also there is a marriage of Richard in 1730 to a Elizabeth Ambross or Ambrose. There is a death record of Elizabeth Ellis in 1737 and one in 1738-again perfect fit

The marriage licence for Richard Ellis and Eleanor Haynes says -
Richard Ellis Widr & Eleanor Haynes age 30 Spinster - both of the parish of Wellington in county of Salop

Also! Richards and Elizabeth (Ambross sp) last daughter Mary was buried 6 Aug 1738 (Oswestry) the same date as he re-married Elianor Haines-surely he doesnt re-marry in Shrewsbury on the same day as his daughters burial in Oswestry???

Thomas Jones is the only other person mentioned.  It is the marriage licence that is dated 6th August, I presume that they married later.
