William Hitchcox & Ann Combs married twice?
« on: Wednesday 16 October 19 01:50 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Can I please confirm that this pair was married twice, firstly 30 July 1732 at Tysoe Warwickshire, and again 3 December 1732 at Alkerton Oxfordshire.  These two places I  believe are only about five miles apart so maybe they got married in their respective home parishes, or one was catholic?

It would be great if there was any indication of parentage.  He is possibly the son of William Hithcox and Philippa Judd baptised in 1716 at Swalcliffe Oxfordshire but that might make him only 16 when he married unless he was baptised quite late.

Thanks to All in advance.

Hi mirl,

I have just had a look at the original register for Alkerton (on Anc..y) and cannot see a marriage in 1732 for William & Ann Combs.
The nearest I see is for a William & Ann calceb [sic] 17-7-1732 followed by
William and Susanna mecol [sic] 30-7-1732.
I can forward an image if you send me a PM

Hi Alan,

I couldn't find the Alkerton marriage either.  I wonder if the Tysoe marriage has any other useful information other than that they married.

As I always do, I am trying to verify information cited in an online tree before I accept it.  Sadly, a large number of others haven't done the verification work.

Hi mirl,
There is an on-line image (Anc..y)  for Ann Combs  "23-2-1710/11 Ann d/o Christopher Combs, Miller and Mary his wife born & bapt. 30-3-1711" in Alkerton, Oxon

Every tree I have seen online has William Hitchcox b1716 Swalcliffe to William & Phillipa nee Judd.

I have just come across an IGI contribution that has this William Hitchcox b1716 being buried 1718 in Swalcliffe.

If some-one could confirm that the 1718 burial is for an infant or 2yo I think I can put this to bed as a false lead.

Hi mirl,

Yes - I can see a baptism for William Hitchcox in Swalcliffe 25-4-1716 and a burial for a William Hitchcox 20-4-1718. No other info recorded.

There are several baptisms of children with parents William & Philip between 1708 - 1718 but no other
William which suggests to me that it was the son  who died in 1718.

Thanks very much for that.

No new generation to add at this time then.
