Pit Rows Lemington
« on: Wednesday 16 October 19 22:29 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have, or know where I can find, photos of Lloyd St, one of the Pit Rows in Lemington, Northumberlansd?  I have found some distend shots from the Beamish collection but not found any source close up.

Try the above.

Sherlock Holmes

Thanks Holmes. Frances Frith is good but, no pictures of Lloyd St, or any of the Pit Rows. Picture below shows Lloyd St just to the right of the rail line. However, I have not found a closer photo anywhere on the internet.

There are quite a few photos of Lemington on this site. Maybe you can find the street you want.

I see there is a Lemington group on facebook. That would probably be the best place to find someone who has the photo you are looking for.

I thought the "Pit Rows" were Lloyd St, Stanley St and Union St, as shown on this map https://maps.nls.uk/view/120934107#zoom=5&lat=5776&lon=11588&layers=BT

Yes, they are the Pit Rows. I am a member of the Lemington Facebook page and although other members lived there in the past, No one I have found has a photo of the roads. In fact only one of a close up of one of the Pit cottages, just open front door.  I have also been in contact with Newcastle Museums, Archives, Miners Institute, Durham Mining Web pages, Web sites: blog-spot: co-curate; Ancestry: Find_My_past etc and also the National Archive at Kew. Also searched British National newspapers. As yet I have not found one photo that shows a street view of any of the Pit Rows in Lemington.

Have you tried Beamish? They have some fairly extensive local photo collections.
