There is a death in Kilwinning in 1948 of an Alexander Craig age 77 years - this could relate to the baby born in 1871 in Kilwinning (again a check of parentage might confirm).
END QUOTE
It appears from A&S Herald BDMs, this gentleman died late October/very early November 1948, husband of one  Jeanie Johnstone.
A second Alexander Shaw Craig died at Ardrossan in late November/very early December 1948, husband of one Sarah H Barr.
Hoping this helps, even by discounting.

Alexander Shaw Craig died 1848 aged 80 ( year of birth circa 1868) and the death was registered in New of East Kilpatrick , Dunbartonshire. There are two births with the name in Ayrshire - one in Largs in 1867 and one in Ardrossan in 1868 .
Think we can discount this man.

The Alexander Craig who died in 1948 in Kilwinning married Jeanie Johnstone in 1918 at Dalry.....he must have been about 47 years old at the time of the marriage.  I wonder if he was the unmarried crane driver on the English 1911 Census?

Sorry Mirren, we are not getting your chap yet but at least we could be eliminating others.

Looby :)

The Alexander Dean Craig born 26/9/1871 in Dalry, Ayrshire has his parents as John Craig and Mary Craig m.s. Wilson. See reply #22. This confirms the information on the Ancestry tree and the information given by Mirren in her original post.

No help with his death unfortunately but at least we know this is the correct man.

Thank you for the recap, Dorrie  :)
This is the man who we can't find a death for in Scotland prior to 1914 ,when his wife remarries.
The men mentioned in previous posts obviously died long after that , but we don't know, without looking at death reg. on SP who their parents were.
Same with the 1918 marriage in Dalry.
Looby :)

So- what is the marital status of Marion on the 1911 census?

What is Alexanders occ on the 1910 birth cert of son David?  I have a feeling a death at sea may be a possibility here.

CaroleW if it had been a death at sea it would have been recorded on SP under Marine Return and there is nothing coming up at all for him within the time frame.

The information that I have is that Marion was a widow in the 1911 census.   As for a David born 1910 we can discount that as David born to Marion and Alex was born in Nov. 1904 and died in 1976 age 71.  As far as I know he (David) always lived in Glasgow.   I just wish I could give more information about Alex.

Mirren do you have the year of birth for the other children?

We know that David was born in 1904 and Mary in 1907. That leaves John and James. Were all 4 children listed as living with her in the 1911 census.
