Super sleuth, Debra :) that’s a brilliant find.

Ancestry transcriptions show her as born ‘Mileham’ in both 1851 and 1861 due to feint/poor writing.

She is with her widowed mother, Elizabeth and siblings in Leighton Buzzard in 1861 1006/ 51/ 13
They are transcribed as Garger.

There are births for the marriage...

Alexander Thomas  1866 Aylesbury
Arthur Sparling 1868 Aylesbury
Charles Henry 1872 Wandsworth

A snippet from the Leighton Buzzard Observer in 1866 gives Thomas Alexander's address as late of 12 Gloucester Street Clerkenwell now of Aylesbury.

Charles Henry dies 1872

Alexander is in St Clement Danes in 1881. I cannot follow Arthur..

Thanks for all that hard work folks and IF ONLY Emma Ginger were the right one !  To put you in the picture, my family saga starts here:  William George Henri Peterkin, b.1912 St Pancras, m. Mary Ann Wilkinson 1936, Westminster.  His parents were Henri Ferdinand Wenger Peterkin, b.1880 Romford, and Florrie Precious, b.1886 Edmonton (but I can't find a marriage record). Henri Ferdinand's parents were Louis (Ludwig) Winger/Wenger, b.1835 in Dueren, Germany, and Emma Peterkin, b.1844, Mitcham (according to some Census Returns). Louis's parents were Frederich Winger and Adelheid Kerres, (his mother appearing on the 1881 Census with him, and shown as Adelaide) and although Louis & Emma appear on various Census Returns with their children named, variously as WENGER & PETERKIN this couple don't seem to have married either. Also, copies of their children's birth certificates don't help as they only show the Mother's maiden name as PETERKIN.  Lastly, although Louis applied for British Citizenship in 1880, he later moved to America and married there in 1896....  ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Why do you say “if only” she was the right one? Seems to me a brilliant find by Debra.

No disrespect intended avm - it's just that I don't seem able to 'tie her in' somehow.  If she was Emma GINGER why would she put her maiden down as PETERKIN on the Birth Certs of her children with Louise WENGER ?  ??? ??? ??? ???

How exactly is her name given on the birth certificates (not the index)?

Remember that our usual interpretation of the info stated on birth certificates is based on the more usual circumstance of the parents being married to one another.

In this case it looks as though Emma and the father of her children were not married to one another but she may still have been lawfully married to someone else. So not fitting the usual paradigm.
