place name
« on: Saturday 26 October 19 14:53 BST (UK) »
Hi guys,

I am looking for a place name which shows up in the registers in the Oswestry area .
Pentre Poeth its called and I suspect it was or is a hamlet between Oswestry and Wrexham.
I can find the name in other areas of  Wales but not this one.
Anyone seen this before?

thanks,
bswinno.

Wiki mentions that Oswestry was once known as Pentrepoeth or "hot village" as it was burned and nearly totally destroyed by the Welsh   :-\

Thanks Gadget another fine reply.
So many of my Swinnerton Ancestors used St Oswald's Church.
And Pentre Poeth kept coming up.

Looking at current maps of Oswestry, I find it hardly resembles the place I used to visit at least once a week when I lived in the area. I was there a few years ago and was still able to make my way around but it does seem to have changed so much  :-\

The Church is a bit outside the main centre. It just on the southern side  on the Morda road.
