MS.," 1981, written by John Davies of Middleton 1635).  Pentre Poeth was the suburb south south of the Church, on the Pool Road. See map of 1795 in Watkin's "Oswestry", 1920, page 12. The name has sometimes been explained by reference to the great fire of 1567"
