"Llanshilling" parish Denbighshire
« on: Sunday 10 November 19 19:51 GMT (UK) »
"Llanshilling" - My ancestor Edward Williams married Jane Morris in Selattyn, Shropshire in 1764.
He is recorded as coming from the parish of Llanshilling, Denbighshire in the Selattyn parish records.
Can anyone suggest or know where this is ?
Could it be Llansilin which is close by ?

Thanks
Richard

"Llanshilling" Parish -

He is recorded as coming from the parish of Llanshilling, Denbighshire in the Selattyn parish records.

As anyone else come across this spelling of a English/Welsh marcher parish ?
Could it be Llansilin, which is close by ?

Thanks
Richard

It is definitely Llansillin - William did say this on your other thread:

Threads merged.

I have ancestors from both parishes.

Thanks Gadget.

Didn't see William's reply. Just thought I would try the Shropshire specialists as well .

Llansillin parish has some parts in Denbighshire and some in Shropshire. Also, the inhabitants of these border parishes seem to use the closest parish. Some of my ancestors who lived in the south eastern part of Llangollen parish, on the border of Denbighshire and Shropshire, used Selattyn church.
I grew up in the area  and,  even in the 1950s and 60s, it was administratively a wee bit illogical. For example, some school friends of mine who lived in Llansillin were bused to Llangollen and had to stay there for the week instead of going to school in  Oswestry, which was much closer.
