Hi guys
Am looking for a photo of Ancoats St Ardwick in Manchester around 1940-1950 or earlier
I used to live in Manchester and know Great Ancoats St very well but I think there was an Ancoats st could have been demolished in the early 50's ??? ???

Hi ManU

Try here:  https://images.manchester.gov.uk/   It's the Manchester Local Image Collection.  Put quotes around your search "Ancoats Street".  Think the demolitions in the area took place in the '60's

It is a relatively new street but may have been built over the original Ancoats St.
That is Ancoats Grove, built after the slum clearances. It runs near Gt  Ancoats St near Pollard   St and Every St.
That fact that there is a Great Ancoats Street makes you think there was an Ancoats St.
Best of luck. Try googling old maps ,using Gt Ancoats St as your start point .

http://www.artus-familyhistory.com/Manchester%201930/2c%201930.html.  See section 2a.

The area has been completely redeveloped, https://goo.gl/maps/HW654Ji9h8Rsfpxf7 it looks as though the Ancoats Street on the map at http://www.artus-familyhistory.com/Manchester%201930/2c%201930.html.   is now called Houldsworth Street, although this early map still calls it Houldsworth Street, but there is Little Ancoats Street.
