Hi
I have an Alfred John Crew b 08feb1875 Pancras d04jul1947 Battersea m Deborah Helen Walker 04jun1903 Hastings
Alfred was the executor of the estate of Jerome Lennie Walker brother of Deborah
Jerome was killed in action 06may1916 France. In Jerome's will there is a notation "medals to Gladys Isobel Mac Donald " I am trying to track down his medals and hoping if there was a will of Alfred it might mention medals ,thx for any help

Have you looked for Alfred's will here?  You can download a copy.  Probate was granted to Clara Emily Titcombe who appears to be his ex wife

She was b 1890 and died 1973 in Sussex.  She was formerly Clara Emily Payne and married Alfred in 1927 but then married Harold J Titcombe in 1939

Hi
thx for the info,i had a look but iam thinking now the death that I have isn't the same Alfred John Crew that married Deborah Walker in 1903 the sister of Jerome she didn't died until 1943 so unless there was a divorce the marriage of Alfred to Clara in 1927 doesn't look to be the same Alfred

Have you found Alfred & Deborah on the 1939 register as I can’t.   The 1943 death for Deborah has a 4/5 yr age difference to the 1911 entry

You say Jerome left his medals to Gladys Isobel McDonald so as executor of the will - surely Alfred will have done so??

Hi
Great find on the divorce ,that's one thing out of the way !Yes you would hope that Alfred followed procedures and the medals got to her,i have found a tree on Ancestry that has the correct Alfred John Crew and have asked if he may have had a will and if there was any mention of medals,i'am just trying every avenue ,for all we know he as executor may have made a decision to not give the medals to her and instead gave them to Jerome's father who is named as next of kin and would normally have been the recipient .I have posted also on Great War Forum and British Medals Forum so hope something come up ,thx for your help

As executor he is obliged to carry out the wishes of the deceased and cannot just make his own decision.   If Gladys refused them then he was at liberty to give them to Jerome's father.
