Hogg, Mary (1838)
« on: Friday 15 November 19 05:53 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for more information on Marry Hogg’s family (my great great Grandmother).

She married Samuel Kernes (1827 - 1885) in Durham in 1860. Their son Samuel is my great Grandfather (1872 - 1941).

I last see the family in 1881 census living in Wallsend.

Mary seems to be born in various places according to the census:  Yorkshire, Stockton and Darlington.

I did find a baptism of a Mary Hogg in Darlington St. Cuthbert:  5 Feb 1838 Mary Hogg, of Darlington, daughter of Elizabeth Hogg, spinster, illegitimate

Co. Durham:  Hall, Snowdon, Makepeace, Barnfather, Barrass, Gray/Grey, Wilson, Carr, Cole, Richardson, Greener, Lamb
Northumberland:  Grey/Gray, Richardson, Barnfather, Heron, Redpath

I would agree with Janis that birth looks most likely, possible death below.

Deaths Dec 1885
Kairns    Samuel    59    Tynemouth    10b   98

No trace of Mary or family in 1891, plenty of remarriages for Mary but none in the North East of England.

Thank you so much!

How wonderful. How did you manage this? I do not have this kind of access (or rather I do not know how to access) this kind of information.

I have an Irene C Hogg born 1925 in my Tree. Married into my family 1943. They had 3 daughters and 1 son, all presumed living. Right neck of the woods. Actually there was another daughter, but given up for adoption, mother couldn't cope with 5 children.

You are welcome - glad to have been able to help. :).

I am fortunate that one of my local libraries (North Shields) has an excellent local studies department which holds the North Tyneside burial records.

If you click on this link and scroll down you will see Mary also has a death notice in the Evening Chronicle.  I will look this up for you at some point in the next few weeks when I can get to the Newcastle City library.  They will have a copy of the relevant newspaper on microfilm.  Hopefully, the notice might also provide a date of death.
