That would be awesome. And any related information on her Samuel (Sammy).  I never found any information further back than his Dad also Samuel, born 1799.

Every generation a boy was called Samuel - sadly my great grandfather (although he had 2 wonderful boys) was a dark sheep! He left a wife in UK and promptly married here in South Africa.

I am available to follow up on any of your South African queries :)

Happy to report I have just found her husband's burial also :):

Church Bank Cemetery - Wallsend
Entry 981
Kairns, Samuel
Mason
Age 59
Place of death: Buddle St. Wallsend
Date of burial: Dec 6th 1885
Section B Grave no 64 Cons

It would seem they are buried in same grave!

You might want to contact the burial services department to find out if they might have a grave stone, perhaps?  If you scroll down on link you will see contact info.

If you click on this link and scroll down you will see Mary also has a death notice in the Evening Chronicle.  I will look this up for you at some point in the next few weeks when I can get to the Newcastle City library.  They will have a copy of the relevant newspaper on microfilm.  Hopefully, the notice might also provide a date of death.

Newcastle Evening Chronicle, 19th October 1903

Kernes, Wallsend, Leslie Gardens, 18th Inst., aged 66, Mary Kernes, widow of the late Samey Kernes. Interment at Wallsend, Wednesday 3 o'clock. Friends kindly accept this, the only intimation.

In the Ward's Directory 1901 - 2:

Leslie Gardens,
No 1
Kernes, M, Mrs. lodgings

So it would appear Mary had a lodging house.

Might this be your Samuel who married in 1898 in Newcastle?  Marriage Locator website indicates this marriage took place at St Silas, Byker.

I last see the family in 1881 census living in Wallsend.

1891 Census

RG 12/43220/6/6
1 Leslie Gardens, Wallsend (i.e. same as on her burial record)
Mary Kaines, head, widow, 54, retired laundress, Yorkshire Northallerton *
Lydia do, daur, single, 15, domestic servant, North'd Wallsend
+ 6 lodgers, all railwaymen
(this ties up with the Wards Directory entry found earlier by RTL?)
* she had a very hazy grasp on where she was born  ;D

1901 Census

RG 13/4795/141/15
21 Buddle Road, Wallsend
Mary Kernes, head, wid, 66, Stockton on Tees
George do, son, widr, 40, Sampler Copper Crr, Durham, Hunwick
Stanley do, grandson, 4, Newcastle, Byker
Peter Lawson, s, 47, shipwright, Canada
