I wonder is this is the same couple mistranscribed (although the image does appear to say Simmons)

1901 - Okehampton, Devon

John Simmons    59 b Tinanton, Buckinghamshire. Carpenter
Amelia Simmons    57 - Inwardleigh, Devon
Mary J Medland    18 - visitor b Bratton Clovelly,

RG13; 2124; 16; 24

No sign of them in the area in previous years, though

Working from Mary Medland. Her mother is Ellen, nee Gale of Inwardleigh

Ellen has an older sister Amelia. They can be found together in Chelsea in 1871 - where the older sister is Amelia Simms. Husband not in view

Mabel, I think the main problem is that I cannot find a marriage for them.

I do think that the 1901 census is likely to be them and thank you.

Did they not fill in the 'years married' as they weren't married or were they, perhaps, married in Scotland or elsewhere ? Perhaps they had dementia in 1911 and could not remember. So many questions.

Wouldn't time travel be a wonderful thing ?

I know that this is an old thread, but was browsing the Bedfordshire section and went out to lunch in LB Monday!  Did you see that they both had wills?  Well assume the one for John Sims in LB is him, as address is not George street.  Wonder if it is worth getting it at £1.50 as my state some relatives in there.

Amelia just left all hers to John.
