With the start of official Scottish registration in 1855, for one year only the BMDs ran over two pages of the register. They included lots of extra info that year. By 1856 the certs had been reduced in content to a section of one page.

From SP:

1855 register entries

In 1855, the first year of statutory civil registration, the following additional information was recorded:

Other children and whether they were living or deceased
    Ages of both parents
    Birthplaces of both parents
    Parents’ usual residence
    Baptismal name (if different).

An image from an 1855 birth cert included also www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/guides/statutory-register-births

Place and date of marriage was also shown in 1855 for one year. It was reintroduced from the early 1860s onwards.

Do we have 2 posters researching the same people - Ronnie10000 & PearsonKenneway?

What Monica has told you is that an 1855 Scottish birth cert contains a lot of useful info.  She has not mentioned Ireland

Please read her reply detailing the type of info which will be on the Scottish cert for son Charles and then download the cert from Scotlands People

You are not looking for a Scottish birth cert for Neil.  You are being advised to download the 1855 Scottish birth cert for his son Charles.  It has already been checked by Ev that the birth was registered and the link to the ScotlandsPeople website is shown for you

Charles' 1855 birth cert will give you some additional details on his parents Neil and Agnes. It may be the only document that provides a clue to their Irish origins, assuming they married in Ireland and married in the county at least one of them was born.

It is frustrating isn't it  :-\

I don't have much experience in researching in Ireland but note that Scottish registration and Irish registration was different. Civil registration of all births, marriages, and deaths in Ireland began in 1864 (except for non-Catholic marriages, for which registration started in 1845).

Not sure if you have come across this site www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/irish-records-what-is-available/civil-records but it is very useful for Irish research and free to use.

See where you get to with Charles' birth entry and info from there.

Pity you haven't found Agnes death yet. I had a look too but couldn't see anything so far.
