Thank you, I am beginning to wonder if Julia and Margaret (Rita) were actually cousins, as the parents names are different....the fact that they both resided at 22 Winton Street wouldn't necessarily be that unusual back in those days.....

Looking at the valuation rolls, Rita's father Michael seems to be the tenant at that address (other households included) for 1935 and 1940.

Have you traced Julia's roots? Were her parents the same on both her marriage and death certs?

Just from the index, I think this is the household in Ardrossan in 1911 (you would need to double check the entry on the original image):

Michael Monaghan 38
Margarette Monaghan 33
Margarette Monaghan 5....Rita likely
Patrick Monaghan 3

No Julia Monaghan in Scotland showing for 1911. Likely to be found in Ireland?

Thanks for that.....we know that Julia Monaghan was Irish, but whether just from an Irish family, or actually born in Ireland herself we don't know....there is one discrepency between the two certificates....on her death  cert. her mother is given as MARY m/s Lynch, but hard to read and could be MARG. a shortened version of Margaret.....on both certs. her father is given as PATRICK Monaghan......

Just some suggestions to try to follow up on Julia. Nothing jumping out for her in Ireland to those parents, likely something is not what it says it was...!

I found this birth entry in Kells, Meath for example. Julia, daughter to a Margaret Monaghan https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1902/01913/1741701.pdf

If Margaret got married after this birth, Julia could show under a different surname for example in 1911.

Michael, father of Rita, is more straightforward. This is his birth entry https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPXM-63L6  There are a number of children showing for this couple, including a Margaret and a Mary.

Michael was already in Scotland for the 1901 census I think, at Dynamite Rd, Stevenson Ayrshire:

William Carson 40
Mary Carson 41
Rose M Carson 1
Ann Mooney 65
Michael Modghan 28 boarder Dynamite Lab b. Ireland
John Carolan 25 boarder Dynamite Lab b. Ireland (Carolan was Michael's mother's maiden name)
John Monaghan 21 boarder Dynamite Lab b. Ireland
Philip Cooney 22 boarder Dynamite Lab b. Ireland

Would be really useful at this stage to try to find a birth date for Julia. The only source I can think of would be the 1939 register. You could consider applying for her entry www.nrscotland.gov.uk/statistics-and-data/nhs-central-register/about-the-register/1939-national-identity-register-and-how-to-order-an-official-extract

Just noticed that the birth entry for Michael in 1873 was in Tullyatlin, Kells, Meath...this is where the birth of the Julia we have been talking about, daughter of a Margaret Monaghan, was also registered.

Need a hard piece of data don't we to follow this through further.

Thanks for that.....according to her marriage cert. in 1933 she was aged 31....on her death cert. in 1940 she is 37......so a birth of 1902 / 1903 seems favourite, unfortunately we don't know where......

Was also trying to find this young Peter in 1911 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1907/01710/1677771.pdf. Born at the Kells workhouse at the end of 1906. Possibly the same mother, a Margaret Monaghan. Can't find him or Julia from the birth entries in 1911. Peter and Patrick as you know are interchangeable first names  :-\
