Thomas MARWICK, born 1839, Kings Lynn, Norfolk.
« on: Friday 22 November 19 20:35 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

TNA WO 12/7152 indicates that Thomas Marwick in 1871 was a Private in the 61st (South
Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot, stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia.   He had served at least 10 years with the Regiment according to TNA WO 12/7142 in 1861, then stationed in Devonport.

Sadly, I can find no further information for him after 1871 and wonder if anyone can help or suggest other military records that can be researched.

Thank you,

BAC3

Hello,

I have now uncovered from Ancestry that a Private Thomas MERWICK of the 61st Regiment of Foot was discharged on 02/04/1872 (reference:  Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges, 1715-1925, Class: WO121, Piece Number: 226).

Would this be Thomas MARWICK as a transcription mistake??   If so, could anyone help with any further details please.

Thank you,

BAC3

It may not necessarily be a mistake it could be written as heard by the clerk.
You will need to download it & see what other details are on it.
It's on FindMyPast.

Jim1

If you are referring to the "Military, armed forces & conflict" category on FindMyPast then the relevant items cited are 1861 and 1871, both of which are mentioned in my opening post.

My question I suppose really wants the answer how to access the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, Records, from 1872, which, sadly, I have failed to do.

The 1872 ledger entry is also on FindMyPast. I'm assuming it's the same record.

The discharge document on FindMyPast appears to be the same as on Ancestry which I assume you already have & it contains the information in your opening post.
I have seen discharge documents that contain additional information with regard to family but obviously in this case it doesn't.
I would say however that they are the same person.
Most men were "out pensioners" & were not residing at the Chelsea hospital.

Thank You All,

I think I have exhausted search possibilities and will have to assume there is no further information available after April 1872 and his army discharge.
