LAWTON of Carrigtohill/Midleton
« on: Saturday 23 November 19 13:01 GMT (UK) »
I am attempting to put one Lawton family together.

From paperwork I already have, I am hoping that from individual names and dates  listed below
someone may recognise the family structure.

I believe that my G/Grandmother was Cath/Kate Lawton.
She would have been born approx. 1850. However I have found at least 2 birth records between 1849 and 1852 and so I cannot confirm which one she might be.

The LAWTONS listed as being at family events are

Catherine married John SHEEHAN...………...no record of marriage found
1877   DAVID LAWTON...…Baptism Sponsor for Michael SHEEHAN
1879   MICHAEL LAWTON...Baptism Sponsor for Hanora SHEEHAN
1880   MARY COTTER [Nee LAWTON]...….. Present at death of Kate SHEEHAN [LAWTON]
1881   MARY COTTER [Nee LAWTON]....... Present at death of Hanora SHEEHAN
1913   JOHN LAWTON.......Witness at Marriage of Michael SHEEHAN and Rebecca COUGHLAN
1914   ELLEN LAWTON.....Baptism Sponsor for John SHEEHAN
1917   WILLIAM LAWTON..Baptism Sponsor for Kathleen SHEEHAN.

I am hoping that someone may have these Lawtons in their family tree. If i could tie-in any of the above with my G/Grandmother Kate/Cath Lawton it would be marvellous as it would mean I could establish who Kates parents and siblings were.

Thank you KG for your kind reply. I do have birth , baptism, and death records for MIchael SHEEHAN, but I am trying to put together Kate LAWTONS family (Michael's mother). I am trying to find Kate's (LAWTON) family. At this particular time I cannot verify her parents.

Hello Ballydw, thanks for replying to my post.
No housework done here this weekend 😌 I have been working on nli.

I have estimated Cath Lawtons birth to be approx 1850 ( + / - ) and have been searching with that in mind.

I have found baptisms for 5 Cath Lawtons between the years 1847 - 1850, all in either Carrigtohill or Midleton.

The one i am most interested in is
Cath Lawton, Baptism 23 December 1850 at Carrigtohill.
Parents: Michael Lawton and Cath Twomey.

I am concentrating on this one because I believe that these are also the parents of Mary Lawton (Walsh-Cotter) who was present at the death of Cath Sheehan (Lawton).

I am still searching for a marriage for Michael Lawton and Cath Twomey and also any other children they might have had.
Address: Cotter Rd, Rock

Hi I am interested in your mention of Mary Lawton (Walsh-Cotter) all my own paternal family of Cotters originated in Carrigtwohill.  I must take a look to see if there are any Lawtons in the mix.
Its a dilemma when you have a few possibilities for parents take a look at any children maybe named after grandparents which was usually a pattern that was followed. Rgds

I would be really interested to know if your tree contains some Carrigtohill Lawtons.  The Cath Lawton that I'm researching named her first daughter Hanora (born 1879) which would fit if her parents were Michael Lawton and Hanora Twomey.

Hi,
My Great Grandfather was David Lawton (baptised 29-12-1841) of Ballyrichard, who married Ellen Lawton of Woodstock, they had seven children,
His sister Mary (baptised 1-4-1839) firstly married Thomas Walsh and had a daughter Margaret, she then married Thomas Cotter and had a son Michael.
His next sister Bridget (baptised 4-3-1865)married Patrick Wallace, Ballinabointra.
His third sister was Kate (baptised23-12-1850) who married John Sheehan.

Their parents were Michael Lawton (c.1819-1885) And Catherine Twomey (c.1820-1883)

Hope this is of help

Here's the link to the marriage in 1875 for others to see:
