Electoral roll look up at Gillingham library please
« on: Sunday 24 November 19 04:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
I am in Australia and would very much appreciate if someone could do an electoral roll look up for me at Gillingham Library. I have been told in a variety of forums that these records are not available online but can be accessed at the library.
TIA :)

For someone to do a look up they will need an address and year  :)

I don't have an address only a name  (George Benjamin Terry) and it's for the years 1932-1935. I would like to find where he lived and with whom. If an address is needed (which seems counterintuitive for a roll of voters) then I'm at a dead end sadly. I'd wager he was in Gillingham though as he was born and died there as well as some other key events occurring there.

Electoral registers are compiled by address, the same as census.  Unless the registers have been digitised then someone would have to search through them all.  His address in 1939 may help if anyone is willing to look for you

Married Ethel M, or is that a different one?

Or 1909 marriage to Lavinia or Bessy?

The address in 1939 can be easily found, but as he is not first person in the household will probably be of little use as could be just a temporary residence.

You need to live in the correct place to be allowed to vote, they are fitting the people to the household, so the addresses exist before the people?

Presuming your man  married to Lavinia Moverley 1n 1909...They were living at 55, Fox Street Gillingham around 1911 with no children.

You will need sight of the actual Electoral rolls to establish exactly his address between 1932 -1935.
you are probably aware he was areguler Soldier .Gunner 35142 from 1904 until 1917 when he was discharged and awarded a Silver War Badge on the 18 Sept 1917.

Erm, are the registered votors for an single address not listed alphabetically within the address?

Eg
John smith with wife jemima and adult son James, and a married daughter Winifed Brown will be listed
Winifed Brown,
James Smith
Jemima Smith
John Smith
