I've got a headache now  :-\

I'm getting lost....what certificate did Sarah Penlington witness?

There were quite a few Penlingtons in Audlem 1841 though I haven't jotted down a Sarah.

Do we know where Joseph and Sarah Penlington lived when they got married?  Or, are we trying to find that out  ???

Su  ;)

Hi both,

Su - it was the wedding of Joseph Penlington  & Sarah nee Jennings in 1821 that Sarah Penlington witnessed, so I assume she was Joseph's sister or similar. I have Joseph & his wife Sarah (there are too many Sarahs !) in Hatherton in 1851 (thanks to Peterbennet !), but not in 1841 - would it be possible to let me have a note of any Penlingtons in the Audlem area then ? What we're really trying to find out is if Joseph who married Sarah could be the same Joseph who was bap in Moreton Saye, or if he definitely can't be !!

Peterbennet - unfortunately the Shropshire searcher has just a baptism & then a dead end - she doesn't even have any census records for him - this is why we wondered if it might be the same one ! I've trawled IGI & the Cheshire Parish records database ( I know it only has Nantwich at the moment, but I found Joseph's son George's marriage there !), so I'm building up a general Penlington picture, but without any specific Joseph leads ! I know there is such a thing as a Vital Records Index - what kind of info does this have & would it be worth looking for Joseph there ?

If this enquiry grinds to a halt, I might have to visit the RO (when my ankle is fully functioning again !!)

Thanks for all the help so far,
Cheers,
Chris

The Vital Records Index nearest two baptisms for Joseph Penlington's are

18th January 1785 Hanmer Flintshire parents James and Sarah
and
4th February 1801 West Derby Lancashire parents Thomas and Mary

The index has no coverage of Audlem or Hankelow and its only coverage of Moreton Saye is 1880-1883.

The National burial index has no coverage of the Cheshire parishes but it does of Moreton Saye 1690-1837. The only Joseph burial from the 1790s onwards in 2nd September 1829. But that Joseph was aged 60.

Hi Valda,

Thanks for this, though it doesn't get us much further  !! Sod's Law that Audlem area isn't in the VRI - it seems to be a bit of a black hole !!

Cheers,
