Before spending any money contact these on the link below, they helped me with some family history stuff and are very good with the Charters Towers stuff. They have a little room at the back of the library full of goodies and are more than happy to help if they can.

Worked at the meat works there so it seems.

Memorial
Townsville Daily Bulletin (Qld. : 1907 - 1954)
Thu 7 Apr 1921

RAFFERTY.—In loving memory of our dear father, who passed away at Alligator Creek Meatworks on 7th April, 1919.
He left his home in perfect health,
Never thinking death was near,
Not dreaming that he never would Return to us again.
A painful shock, a dreadful blow,
Ah dearest father we miss you so.
Our loss is great, we'll not complain,
But hope in Heaven to meet again.
(Inserted by loving sons and daughters,
H., R., F., A., and M. Rafferty.)
