I was just wondering whether this was a young lady dressed up as Little Miss Muffett, with a spoon attached by a ribbon to her right hand and a cup (for the curds and whey) in her left?

Either fancy dress or a stage performance?

She looks like she is in  fancy dress.
I know it is a totally different era but during WW2 there were pictures in the papers of a character called Mrs Sew and Sew, make do and mend. My sister went to a fancy dress party as this person. She wore lots of things attached to her dress, reels of cotton, scissors, knitting needles etc.
I wonder if this girl is wearing an outfit depicting a character from her era.

I suspect it might be my grandmother, and your dates would fit with her being in her early teens.

Do you have any photographs of your grandmother? This girl has a distinctive look (like a greek sculpture I think.  :) ) Maybe we could offer our opinions as to whether this girl is your grandmother if you can post a photo her.

This is a photograph of my grandmother as a young woman. She had very distinctive eyebrows which makes me think that both photographs are the same person.

Yes, it could be the same girl. She may have her hair curled in the first picture or straightened in the second.  :) I thought that the young girl had a very straight nose whereas your grandmothers is not quite straight, though that could be down to the lighting. Nice pictures.  :) Did she have any sisters?

She had five sisters, but I don't have photographs of any of them  :'(  My family seemed hell bent on tossing away all sorts of things - photographs, paperwork etc. Just wish I knew what they were trying to hide.

I am attaching a very poor photograph of her taken when she was in her late 50's I think.  Not sure whether it would help at all.

The reason I asked about sisters is that I wondered if the girl may have been a sister rather than your grandmother. I’m not confident they are the same person, though they do have a lot of similar facial features. I would be interested to see what others think.  :)

Did she have naturally curly hair? Her hair in the last photo looks to be quite thick and wavy.

Her son, my uncle, who is almost 90, seems to remember her perming her hair. Perhaps I must just accept that she is a relative. Must just add that she was a mean, bitter woman, which is why I think that the miserable face in the first photograph made us all think it could be her (including her son!)

Thank you so much for all the help.

I am convinced that it is her, and that she has curled her hair, the likeness is too striking for it not to be her. If you have access to newspapers, there may be some mention of a pantomime or village fete activities for that period.
